2016 Year in Review: Texas Group Aces Golf is Great Video Contest

December 22, 2016

Golfers from across America submitted videos, which couldn’t exceed three minutes in length, that were funny, creative and most of all inspired.

When the three-month contest reached its conclusion, Texan David Watkins emerged victorious. Watkins’ video entry spoofed scenes from famous golf movies to great effect.

He partnered with three lifelong friends to shoot the video and their passion for the game was obvious, but the decision wasn’t easy. Speaking to the difficulty of choosing a winner, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday provided the second and third place finishers with a trip to the area, too.

“It was a fun idea that we got behind in a big way, and here we are as the winner,” Watkins said. “It’s still shocking. The memories – the trip, video, the money –  will last a lifetime.”

Watkins and his friends are planning to take their Myrtle Beach golf trip, which will be their first, in the spring of 2017 and a follow-up video will ensue.

“The entry submitted by David Watkins and his friends was everything the Golf is Great video contest was about,” said Bill Golden, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday president. “Their video was funny, creative and their passion for the game was obvious. Congratulations to them and all of our contestants, because the choice wasn’t an easy one.”

The contest was a success by most any definition, attracting more than 50 entries, 100,000 page views and the submitted videos were viewed 190,000 times. After the videos were submitted, fan voting determined the top 10 and industry leaders then selected the winner.

Building off the success of this year’s contest, MBGH will be holding another in 2017, so start planning your video now!
