February 22, 2016

US soccer star Abby Wambach is scheduled to play in the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-AmUnited States Women’s National Soccer Team legends Abby Wambach (@AbbyWambach) and Mia Hamm (@MiaHamm) have committed to play in the event for the first time and should prove to be popular new faces.

Hamm was America’s first female soccer superstar, holding the American record for most international goals scored until she was surpassed by Wambach in 2013. She remains the most decorated player in women’s soccer history, having won four NCAA titles at North Carolina, two World Cup Championships and two Olympic gold medals.

No one, man or woman, has scored more goals in international competition than Wambach and she helped lead the United States to a pair of gold medals and the long coveted 2015 World Cup title. In 2012 she was named FIFA World Player of the Year.

Speaking of international competition, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III (@Love3d), who is also a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour, is slated to participate for the first time this year. Love, who has attempted to come to the previous two years only to suffer an injury, is hoping the third time will be charm at the MAM, one of golf’s most successful charity events.

Among the legends who are early commitments to attend are NFL Hall of Famers Dan Marino, Jonathan Ogden and Andre Reed. Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin is also returning to the event.

While the list of early commitments is impressive, keep an eye out for more big names as we get closer to the event.

The Monday After the Masters will be played at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club, one of the best Myrtle Beach golf courses, on April 11. This will mark the 14th consecutive year the Pro-Am is played at the Dye Course and festivities will begin with the Celebrity Long Drive Contest presented by State Water Heaters at 10 a.m. The tournament will tee off at 11 a.m.

Tickets are sold out and a capacity crowd of 6,000 is expected.
