Barefoot Resort – Fazio Course Profile

May 9, 2016

Fazio has taken a piece of land that boasts significant natural and man-made elevation changes and developed it into a golf course that will challenge even the boldest of players. Although the course doesn’t route you back to the clubhouse after nine holes, it’s not a links course. It is, by all accounts, a Lowcountry course that makes great use of its natural resources: live oaks, pines, sand and natural waste areas.

Did I mention water? It comes into play on about 15 holes. Four of the five par 3 holes requires a carry over water and on a couple of the par 4s and at least one par 5, it leads to risk/reward opportunities. Sand traps and waste areas are strategically placed and when you’re not in them, they certainly add beauty to the picture.

The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort is lacking a couple of things, but don’t worry, it’s for the better. The first is the absence of homes; you won’t find many on the course. Secondly, is the interaction with other groups; it’s not uncommon to see no one else on the course besides you’re playing partners. Just you, nature and that little white ball!

Fazio Course

Most Memorable Hole: In this case it needs to be plural as it’s very hard to pick just one. For many, it has to be Number 5, a 499-yard, par 4 (from eh back tees) that plays uphill with water right and a lot of bunkers and heather on the left. The water shouldn’t come into play; if it does, stop by the pro shop and book a lesson with one of their PGA professionals. Even a booming tee shot is going to leave an extra-long approach shot to an elevated green that is well protected by bunkers. I consider bogey acceptable on this hole.

The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort has won many accolades and is a must play on any golf vacation to Myrtle Beach. With 5 sets of tees, it’s perfect for golfers of all skill levels; just choose the tees that best suit your game and when in doubt – tee it forward!
