Dustin Johnson 073.jpgPGA Tour star Dustin Johnson has lived the Myrtle Beach golf experience and loved it. Now he is going to tell the world about the virtues of a Grand Strand golf trip.

Representatives from Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday hosted a press conference at TPC of Myrtle Beach to announce that Johnson has been named the official spokesperson for the golf marketing cooperative for the remainder of 2011.

As part of the agreement, Johnson will appear in various marketing materials, including print and radio ads, social media efforts and a 30-second television commercial showcasing his talents and affinity for the Myrtle Beach area.

“I'm obviously very excited,” Johnson said. “This is the first time I've done anything like this. [Myrtle Beach] is a place I've grown to love.”

A four-time winner on the PGA Tour and the 12th ranked player in the world, Johnson owns a home in Myrtle Beach and is very involved in the community through his foundation. He is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University and sponsors the General Hackler Championship each spring as well.

Johnson, the first player since Tiger Woods to win in each of his first three years on Tour, has emerged as one of the game’s most recognizable and popular players. He won twice in 2010 and made the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Even before becoming Golf Holiday’s official spokesperson, Johnson was an unofficial ambassador for the community. A TPC of Myrtle Beach logo has adorned his bag since he turned pro and he has never hidden his affinity for the area.

“It's where I grew as a golfer and as a person so it's very special to me,” he said.

Now in his fourth year on the PGA Tour, Johnson has played some of the best courses in the world, and the layouts in Myrtle Beach are as good as any.

“We are thrilled to partner with Dustin to promote the Myrtle Beach area as America’s number one golf destination,” said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. “We are excited to be associated with one of the best golfers in the world, and a guy that knows and loves Myrtle Beach.”

The announcement of Johnson’s role with Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday comes a week after the area played host to the popular ESPN Radio show “Mike & Mike in the Morning,” featuring hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic. The Mike & Mike show originated from the 17th annual Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club on April 11.
