The Grand Strand is home to seven of the nation’s top 100 public courses and now, thanks to Farmstead Golf Links, it’s home to one of the “18 Most Fun Holes in America.”  Golf Digest’s Architecture Editor, Ron Whitten, compiled a list of America’s most enjoyable holes to play and No. 18 – a mammoth 767-yard, par 6 – at Farmstead Golf Links made the cut.

Long regarded as one of the Grand Strand’s most unique holes, No. 18 is so big that it can’t be contained by a single state. The hole tees off into a sweeping fairway in South Carolina and finishes on a large, undulating green just across the state line in North Carolina.
One of Myrtle Beach’s most popular courses since its 2001 opening, Farmstead joined layouts like TPC Sawgrass, Pacific Dunes, Kapalua and Spyglass Hill on the Golf Digest list, which was published in the December issue of the magazine.

Set on a level stretch of land that was once a tobacco farm, Farmstead’s windswept 480 acres were fashioned into a spectacular set of challenges by architect Willard Byrd. Wide, links-style fairways gently follow the lay of the land to create a collection of shot-making opportunities that reward superior play from golfers of many styles.

As the course rolls over the natural contours of the land, it provides countless views of the area’s native grasses and sparkling lakes.

Farmstead, a par 72 layout, plays 7,242 yards from the tips and has an 8,000-square foot Georgian style clubhouse that overlooks the 18th green and has a full service pro shop, lounge and grille. The course features a trio of back nine par 3s.

Farmstead Golf Links was a finalist for Best New Golf Course in North Carolina in 2002. The layout traverses the North Carolina-South Carolina state line several times during each round.
