Golf Magazine spy went undercover at True Blue and discovered a gemThe guys at Golf Magazine went undercover at True Blue, one of the best Myrtle Beach golf courses, and reported on their experience in the January 2014 issue.

The story, which ran with a subhead saying, “We go undercover to see if you’re overpaying,” evaluated True Blue based on service, pace of play, quality and value before delivering a verdict.

Not surprisingly, the Golf Magazine spy had a positive experience at a layout that has long been hailed as being among the best in America.

Here is a brief look at how the spy evaluated True Blue:

Service: “Friendly efficient staffers greeted us as we arrived, as befits a premier Grand Strand course. Impressively, the beverage-cart girl met us on the first hole … then again, this potent layout gives you a better buzz than any cocktail can.”

Pace of Play: “We teed off at 9 a.m. in late August and breezed around in slightly over four hours.”

Quality: “Holes are so interesting and varied that our spy couldn’t wait to reach the next tee.”

Value: “You’ll pay a premium fee for a premium course … The scenery, variety and overall challenge made True Blue worth every penny.”

Verdict: “From the late, great (Mike) Strantz’s sublime design to the helpful staff to the tip-top course conditions, this dramatic, watery layout remains a must play in Myrtle Beach.”

We obviously agree with the assessment of the Golf Magazine spy! If you are taking a beach golf vacation, True Blue is as good as nearly any option along the South Carolina coast.
