Good Luck: Myrtle Beach’s Most Memorable 13th Holes
The 13th at the Dunes Club, known as Waterloo, is the Myrtle Beach area’s most iconic hole. The 90-degree dogleg right is a par 5 that has been bringing golfers to their knees since the course opened in 1948. The drive is all about positioning, the second shot tests a player’s nerve, and the green is one of the consensus top 100 course’s most daunting. If that’s not enough, expect a gallery of upwards of 12 alligators watching from the banks of Lake Singleton.
The 13th hole at Heritage, which plays 175 yards from the white tees, is one of the most challenging par 3s on the Myrtle Beach golf scene. It plays across water to a green that seems to be the final resting place of several elephants. If you drown your tee shot, take heart, a generous drop area provides a reasonable opportunity to get up-and-down for bogey.
The Grand Strand’s most photographed par 3 is the 13th at Pawleys Plantation, which features a peninsula green surrounded by a tidal marsh. From the white tees, the hole can play up to 120 yards long, but the tees are typically up, challenging players to hit a small, exposed green from approximately 70 yards. It’s an exhilarating hole and one of the area’s most visually stimulating.
