My Golf Spy Hails 5 Myrtle Beach Courses Among The “Most Wanted” In South Carolina

MyGolfSpy.com, “golf’s top secret site,” partnered with The Grint, a stat tracking and handicap service, to build a list of the Most Wanted Courses in South Carolina, a ranking of Palmetto State layouts based on the evaluations of regular golfers (people like you!).

Myrtle Beach dominated those rankings, highlighted by Caledonia Golf & Fish Club being the named the state’s “Most Wanted” course, edging Kiawah’s Ocean Course for the honor. On a 100-point scale, Caledonia earned a score of 97.51, besting the Ocean Course by less than a 1/10th of a point.

The easy conclusion to draw from the MyGolfSpy.com/Grint survey is that when golfers are asked where their favorite courses are, Myrtle Beach wins. Readers of Golf.com and USA Today/10Best, who voted Myrtle Beach as the game’s greatest destination, have come to the same conclusion. 

Caledonia, a consensus top 100 public course, is certainly deserving of its spot atop the Palmetto State rankings. The Mike Strantz design is visually and architecturally stunning, highlighted by its famed 18th hole, which plays over water and into a green that rests in the shadow of an antebellum style clubhouse. 

True Blue, Caledonia’s sister course, is another mesmerizing Strantz creation that is held in almost equally high esteem. Everything about the course is big – fairways, greens and, most of all, the fun. The closing stretch is one of the Grand Strand’s best, and True Blue has more than earned it’s place among America’s best public courses. 

Grande Dunes is one of six area courses that play along the Intracoastal Waterway and it delivers both beauty and challenge. The par 3 14th hole, which rests along the Waterway, is on any short list of the South’s most dramatic par 3s. Grande Dunes has been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses with good reason. 

King’s North at Myrtle Beach National is one of area’s bedrock layouts. The Arnold Palmer design is home to several of the Grand Strand’s most memorable holes, including the par 5 sixth, otherwise known as The Gambler, the par 3 12th, an island green with S and C bunkers, and the 18th, which is home to more than 40 bunkers. 

Glen Dornoch, which has five holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway, has long been a players’ favorite. The ninth and 18th holes play along the Waterway and share a memorable double green. The par 3 17th, with a green surrounded on two sides by water, is the Myrtle Beach golf course’s most photographed hole. 

The My Golf Spy accolades comes on the heels of Golf Magazine including four Myrtle Beach golf courses on its prestigious list of the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play,” a ranking of America’s best public courses.
