Myrtle Beach Confidential: Where to Go for Happy Hour on Your Golf Trip

October 1, 2015

There is no shortage of choices on a Myrtle Beach golf trip, but where should you go?

We polled locals with a more than passing familiarity with area watering holes and, based on the results, have compiled a list with two bars from each region of the Strand guaranteed to put the happy in your post golf hours.

Myrtle Beach
Anchor Cafe is a great happy hour spot

  • The Anchor Café, located at Marina Inn, overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. The food is good and the drinks are cold, but you go for the view and it delivers. Watching boats sail by and golfers play the ninth hole at Grande Dunes, one of the most scenic Myrtle Beach golf courses, is a nice way to conclude the day.
  • Liberty Steakhouse at Broadway at the Beach has long been a happy hour favorite and it remains so. Locally brewed Craft Beers are on tap, the half-priced appetizers are great (here is a vote for the cheese fries, despite the fact you will feel you arteries clogging with each bite!), and the location in the heart of Myrtle Beach can’t be beat. Liberty is also surrounded by 25 other bars and restaurants, so options are aplenty.

North Myrtle Beach
Flynn's Irish tavern used to be home to a jail

  • Flynn’s Irish Tavern, located on Main Street, was once a jail, but being sentenced to happy hour here is a great way to spend an evening. The food is good – yes, they really have made Irish food tasty – and the atmosphere is inviting.
  • If you are based along the North Strand, there is no better place than OD Arcade. (No, you aren’t too old for an arcade!) OD is located along Ocean Boulevard and live music, karaoke and pool, in addition to video games, are par for this course.

Murrells Inlet/Pawleys Island

  • Dead Dog Saloon is a must-visit happy hour spotThe Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet is one of the area’s coolest spots and happy hour at Dead Dog Saloon, with live music and a stunning view overlooking the inlet, is tough to beat. If you are playing anywhere on the South Strand, make a stop at Dead Dog a priority.
  • If it’s a true sports bar you are looking for, try the Island Bar in Pawleys Island. There are 30 TVs and a 5 x 8 projection screen to complement a surprisingly diverse menu and outstanding beer selection. With a mix of golfers, locals and beach bums, this funky little bar is certainly worth a visit.
