Myrtle Beach Golf Hole of the Week: No. 7 at Sea Trail’s Byrd Course

In recent years, management has doubled-down on its commitment to the golfer experience, installing new greens at each of the courses, repaving cart paths, renovating bunkers and removing trees throughout the property.

As a result, Sea Trail is in prime condition with the fall golf season beginning to appear on the horizon. While Maples and Jones are more prominent architects, there is case to be made the Byrd layout is Sea Trail’s best, and it’s where we are going for our Myrtle Beach golf hole of the week.

Yardage: 190 yards (blue tees); 167 yards (white tees); 142 (gold tees); 102 yards (red tees)
Handicap: 17

There is no way this is the easiest hole on the front nine. It’s not the hardest, either, but at 167 yards from the white tees, it’s a long one-shotter for the average golfer.

The seventh hole features no water, but sand is everywhere. A large waste bunker comes into play just off the tee and the green is surrounded by five bunkers, leaving no room to run the ball up.

The putting surface is sufficiently large but you must hit it on the fly, so plan on having to clear 150-155 yards. The sand creates visual contrast that makes the hole easy on the eyes, and the tee shot, in particular, provides ample challenge.
