Myrtle Beach Golf Hole of the Week: Prestwick Country Club, No. 13

May 22, 2017

Prestwick's 13th hole is an outstanding par 3

The P.B. Dye design, located less than six miles from Myrtle Beach International Airport, enjoys an outstanding location and a layout that offers a thorough examination of your game.

The course isn’t unfairly difficult, but it challenges players on every level, making it an enjoyable test. For many, the layout’s signature holes are the 9th and 18th, which play parallel to each other and are a separated by a large lake.

Make no mistake, both holes are memorable (and photo worthy), but our Myrtle Beach Golf Hole of the Week features a much shorter challenge at Prestwick.

No. 13
Par:
3
Yardage: 152 yards (championship tees), 144 yards (blue tees), 135 yards (white tees), 118 yards (green tees), 83 yards (red tees).
Handicap: 18

Let’s start at the top, the 13th hole isn’t the easiest on the course, but that doesn’t mean it’s among the hardest. The par 3 is 135 yards from the white tees, but it’s not without danger.

Water runs from tee to green, leaving no room to come up short and very little for balls pulled to the left.  While many tee shots have met a watery grave, the 13th green is large so if there is any doubt, pull an extra club and don’t try to get cute if the flag is cut near the front of the green.

Following the daunting, par 5 12th hole, No. 13 provides a scenic respite in the midst of a tough stretch. Take a deep breath, don’t get intimidated by the water, and make a good swing. If you do those things, No. 13 offers an excellent shot at making par.
