The Connection Between Myrtle Beach and Texas

June 20, 2017

For years, Texas golfers have been making yearly pilgrimages to enjoy the variety of top-rated courses, beaches, weather, entertainment and dining that Myrtle Beach offers.

Aside from both Myrtle Beach and Texas loving golf, did you know that there are a few other connections between the two?

Here are some Texas-related facts that might surprise you!

Golf Is Great – The inaugural winners of the #GolfIsGreat Video Contest came from the Dallas, Texas area. David Watkins and his buddies, Derek Johnson, Stephen Slater and Sean Davis filmed the winning video and won $10,000 and a dream vacation to Myrtle Beach. And we must say, the quartet had a GREAT time during their trip to The Golf Capital of the World.

Roger Clemens – The seven-time CY Young winner, who played three seasons with the Houston Astros and starred for the University of Texas, has played in the Myrtle Beach World Amateur three times over the years. The Rocket even finished in ninth place in 2012.

219 – Every year, Texas is among the top-five states represented in the Myrtle Beach World Amateur. This year is no different, as 219 Texans are currently registered for the world’s largest single-site amateur golf tournament.

Non-Stop Flights – Although Texas and Myrtle Beach are more than 1,200 miles apart, it’s actually not that hard to travel to Myrtle Beach. There are a number of airlines that fly to Myrtle Beach, but if you want a non-stop flight, you can take Spirit Airlines. Spirit offers a non-stop flight from Dallas/Fort Worth that takes two hours and thirty-five minutes.  You can board your flight in the morning and be on the tee box for an afternoon tee time!
