The finishing hole on the Palmetto Course became the first in Myrtle Beach to play along the Intracoastal Waterway when it opened in 1974, and it’s as memorable today as it has ever been.

Playing from an elevated tee box, the waterway runs up the entire left side of the hole, creating a picturesque setting as your round comes to a close. While the 18th is the second most difficult on the back, per the scorecard, the fairway is generous.

So long as golfers don’t lose concentration thinking about the beauty of the water and passing boats, the tee shot isn’t overly difficult. Players that crack a 225-yard drive (or better) will have a manageable approach to a receptive green.

Myrtlewood is one of the area’s friendliest facilities, and No. 18 at Palmetto is its crown jewel.
