Year in Review: #GolfisGreat Video Contest Winner Crowned

The contest encouraged golfers to submit short videos showcasing what they love about the game, with the winner receiving $10,000 and a trip for four to Myrtle Beach. Videos from across the nation were submitted with a field of finalists narrowed by a fan vote.

After the finalists were identified, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday officials were tasked with picking a winner and selected Alex Anthony, a resident of Toronto, Canada (watch winning video).

A former CFL football player and Grey Cup champion, Anthony, put together a one-minute video that highlighted what he loves about the game – its simplicity and the peace of mind he has standing over the ball.

While Anthony lives in Toronto, the Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday team flew to his hometown of Victoria, British Columbia to surprise him with the announcement that he won the contest. With the assistance of Anthony’s mother, more than 30 friends and family gathered for the surprise party after he played nine holes with his high school football coach. (Watch surprise party video)

Anthony grew up playing the game in Victoria on a course owned by the family of one of his best friends. Even as he excelled on the football field – Anthony played collegiately at Wilfrid Laurier and was a fifth-round draft pick of the Roughriders – golf remained his escape from the chaos of the gridiron.
