How To Play Burning Ridge Golf Club’s 12th Hole: Myrtle Beach’s Longest Par 3

August 14, 2017

No. 12 is Burning Ridge's signature holeWild Wing Avocet and the three courses at Myrtle Beach National are just a chip shot away, but as high profile properties popped up around Burning Ridge, the Gene Hamm design doubled down on the virtues that have made the course popular since its opening.

Playability, conditioning and value are Burning Ridge’s calling cards. In the aftermath of a substantial renovation in 2005, Burning Ridge was named Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course of the Year and the project set the property on the path it currently enjoys.

From the white tees, the layout plays an ideal 6,216 yards and while it can occasionally present the appearance of being tight off the tee, there is ample room to land the ball. But golfers shouldn’t push their luck, as there isn’t a surplus of room off the fairway.

On our Myrtle Beach golf hole of the week, the tee shot is dicey but trees are of no concern.

No. 12 – Burning Ridge Golf Club
Par:

Yardage: 247 yards (blue tees), 200 yards (white tees), 164 yards (gold tees), 108 yards (red tees)
Handicap: 14

The 12th is Burning Ridge’s signature hole and certainly its most photographed. The green is surrounded on three sides by water and the tee shot often plays into the prevailing wind, making it the course’s toughest challenge.

There is water in front of the green, to the right, and behind it. How the USGA determined this was the 14th toughest hole on the course is baffling, because it is the Myrtle Beach area’s longest par 3, playing a whopping 247 yards from the tips and a daunting 200 yards from the white tees.

There is room to miss to the left, so players are best advised not to challenge the pin if its anywhere right of center.  Par is a good score here, and the 12th is a hole you will not forget at Burning Ridge Golf Club.
