Fifty years is quite the accomplishment for any business. Weathering the test of time and succeeding for an extended period is no easy feat, but it’s a feat that Beachwood Golf Club celebrated this week.
On Wednesday, July 18, members of Beachwood’s staff, founding individuals, community members and customers came together to celebrate a half-century of providing memorable golf experiences to visiting Myrtle Beach golfers.
Opened in 1968, Beachwood Golf Club was founded by Carl Rust II, Dick Elliott, Blakeney Jackson Jr., Lloyd Bell, W. Jennings Livingston, John Jennrette Jr., Joseph B. Johnson, Mance Watkins, Jesse Fisher Jr., Herbert L. King, William A. Gore, Russell R. Burgess, Edward L. Williamson, Benton Walton III, Pete Townsend, Matt M. O’Shields and James Marvin Helms.
The 6,691 yard Gene Hamm design was one of the original 12 Grand Strand area courses and rightfully so has been called one of Myrtle Beach’s best conditioned golf courses year after year.
Over the years, the course has hosted a number of different tournaments, including the Carolinas Open and the Carolinas PGA Seniors Championship.
Located just a mile from the ocean, Beachwood enjoys a prime location and is one of the few courses with no housing anywhere on the property, meaning a peaceful round of golf waits.
