The First Tee of the Coastal Carolinas held its sixth annual Future Generations Tournament, the organization’s largest fundraiser, on July 24 at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, and Golf Channel personality Charlie Rymer again headlined the festivities.
A long-time friend of the Myrtle Beach golf community and a tireless advocate for junior golf, Rymer addressed the 34 First Tee participants playing in the event and spent time with each group on Caledonia’s ninth tee.
The Future Generations tournament attracted 132 golfers, including First Tee participants from Brunswick, Horry and Georgetown counties. The tournament grossed $50,000 and will net the organization approximately $43,000, money that will go directly to helping expose kids to the game of golf and the values it fosters.
Overhead for the tournament was extremely low – 86 percent of all funds raised will go toward First Tee programs – due to the generous support of the event’s sponsors. The primary sponsors for the Future Generations tournament were: Golf Tourism Solutions, Wilson, which provided hats and golf ball, Moe’s BBQ (dinner), Jimmy John’s (lunch), Moore Insurance and PGA Tour Superstore.
The First Tee of the Coastal Carolinas is one of the nation’s largest and most active chapters. The organization will impact the lives of more than 16,000 Grand Strand children with its golf and life skills experience program in 2018.
The First Tee reaches public and private school children in Horry, Georgetown and Brunswick counties, incorporating its nine core values – honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgement – into the organization’s curriculum.
Ranked among America’s top 100 public courses by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golf Channel’s Matt Ginella, Caledonia was, as always, an outstanding host for the event, helping attract sponsors and teams to an event that benefits the game and the entire community.
LPGA player Kristy McPherson was scheduled to participate in the event, but travel problems prevented her from arriving in time. The Conway native promised to make another visit to the area on behalf of the First Tee.
