Long Weekend in Myrtle Beach? – Take the Trip Down Highway 501

Friday

7:30-8 a.m.: Whether you are departing from Charlotte, Greenville, Columbia or other points westward, a relatively early start will leave you ample time for an afternoon round in Myrtle Beach.

12:30 p.m.: MBN – King's North 

You will be arriving via Highway 501, so you owe it to yourself to play the signature course at Myrtle Beach National – King’s North – on your way in. The Arnold Palmer design has been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, so why not begin your trip by challenging “The Gambler,” the unforgettable par 5, sixth hole.

5:15 p.m.: Handley’s Pub & Grub

Before arriving at the beach to check-in, make sure you stop at Handley’s Pub & Grub, one of the area’s best restaurant/happy hour spots that is largely a secret to our out-of-town visitors. The food is very good, the drinks are cold, and it’s a spot you will want to return to year after year.

7 p.m.: Check-in at the Caribbean Resort

With 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom accommodations and a great location in the heart of Myrtle Beach, the Caribbean is an ideal landing spot.

8 p.m.: Bummz Beach Cafe

For those in your group that don’t want to relax in the room, Bummz Beach Café is just blocks down Ocean Boulevard and its on the beach. It’s a great way to wind down and get ready for a big Saturday!

Saturday

8 a.m.: Pine Lakes Country Club

The Granddaddy, Myrtle Beach’s first course, is as fun as it has ever been and it’s less than three miles from your hotel. Enjoy a bit of the area’s rich golf history and an outstanding course.

12:45 p.m.: Waterloo Grill

So begins your big splurge on this trip: a round at the Dunes Club, Myrtle Beach’s second golf course. After you wrap up at Pine Lakes, head over to the acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Sr., course and enjoy lunch overlooking the pounding surf of the Atlantic Ocean.

1:30 p.m.: Tee Time at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club

This is a consensus top 100 public course (and by consensus, I mean Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golf Channel!), and it’s every bit as good as the hype suggests. The greens are the area’s fastest and the design superb, especially Alligator Alley and the famed 13th hole.

6:30 p.m.: Sea Captain’s House

After a day playing Myrtle Beach’s two oldest golf courses, you need to top it off with dinner at the area’s oldest and most popular restaurant. Did I mention that Sea Captain’s House is right beside your hotel and sits along the beach (if you can’t tell, I highly recommend enjoying dinner and/or a drink while overlooking the Atlantic!)?

8:00 p.m.: Broadway at the Beach

The Grand Strand is renowned for it’s nightlife, and Celebrity Square at Broadway at the Beach is at the heart of that reputation. It’s less then two miles from your hotel and a stop at Crocodile Rocks, a dueling pianos bar, is always recommended.

Sunday

7:56 a.m.: Man O’War Golf Club

An early tee time awaits on Highway 501, allowing you to get a jump on the drive home while enjoying a great round of golf. Man O’War, one of the area’s most underrated layouts, is built around a 100+ acre lake and is the only course in the world with back-to-back island greens. You won’t forget the round.

12:30 p.m.: Man O’War parking lot

Pack up the car(s) and head home!

3:30-4:30 p.m.: Arrive back home in plenty of time to enjoy a few hours of daylight with the family and get ready to go back to work, where you can regale envious co-workers with details from your trip.
