General Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina U is an enjoyable course

June 27, 2016

The Myrtle Beach golf course is operated by CCU‘s PGA Golf Management program, one of only 20 university programs accredited by the PGA of America and is maintained by Horry/Georgetown Technical College’s Sports Turf Management Program. These kids do a great job of running and maintaining a golf course.

Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University

In 2011, the Hackler Course underwent a massive renovation, which included the installation of new MiniVerde Bermuda grass greens. More recently, a new drainage system has been installed on the first hole to eliminate water that used to collect in low lying areas. The Myrtle Beach golf course plays 6,886 yards from the back tees to a par of 72. From here, the course rating is 73.4 with a slope of 130. Many players will find the White Tees at 6,392 yards to be more suited to their game and still allow them to retain their manhood.

Most Memorable Hole: Number 18, Par 4, 340 yards.

No one ever said that a hole has to be long to be considered a favorite. At only 340 yards from the white tees, you’re better off leaving the driver in the bag, unless that’s your 250 club. That’s about how far it is to the lone tree by the water, any farther and you’re in trouble. Slightly short of the water leaves a pitch shot of about 100 yards and this is where the fun begins. The green is long and narrow, with lots of undulation creating a few different tiers. The middle right is sort of hollowed out and slopes back to the water. Miss it here and you’ll be looking at an uphill chip or putt from down near the water. Hit your approach shot in this area and be sure to keep your eye on it until it comes to rest; you may be surprised where it ends up.

The Hackler Course practice facility is one of the area’s best. It includes a grass driving range, practice sand bunker and a 3,000 square-foot putting green. There is also a 3-hole short game and, if you’re looking to improve your game, there’s a learning center and the opportunity for video instruction.
